Serious security threat on Apple Macs OSX

June 2, 2010

It seems that due the rise in popularity, Apple Macs are becoming the new target for malware.  Microsoft Windows is still the easy target but the criminal gangs are praying on the fact the many Mac users believe the operating system is inherently secure so requires no protection.

This latest spyware was discovered by Intego and has appeared on a number of popular download sites.

According to Intego, this spyware, OSX/OpinionSpy, performs a number of malicious actions, from scanning files to recording user activity, as well as sending information about this activity to remote servers and opening a backdoor on infected Macs.

The most worrying aspect of this virus is it injects code, without your knowledge, into Safari, Firefox and iChat, and copies personal data from these applications.

So we urge any Mac users to get protected with Anitivirus software because you do not want to end up in the same mess the Microsoft Windows is in.
Now unfortunately there are not many free malware/spyware applications for the Mac but one to look at is iAntiVirus .

Either way, due to this rise in attacks it really is time to consider proper protection for your Mac because you do not want your personal data getting into the wrong hands.
